Has your Carlsbad dentist mentioned the possibility of having to extract your 3rd set of molars? It’s a situation that many will face. Don’t fret though, things will work out for the better.
Humans get their second set of adult teeth in early puberty. At the beginning, this adult set will consist of twenty-eight teeth. Four more teeth will come in later. These teeth are the lower and upper 3rd molars. They are called wisdom teeth. They are given this name because they usually come in between age seventeen and twenty one, around the time that kids start to gain “wisdom.”
In several people, wisdom teeth come in with no Problems. If the teeth are healthy and they come in straight, then almost all of the time people do not even realize the teeth are there. In a number of cases, wisdom teeth cause Problems that need them to be removed. There are also some dentists who believe in removing the teeth before any Problems existing.
It is easier to remove wisdom teeth in someone who is in their late teens or early twenties. At this point, the jawbone and the roots of the teeth are not completely developed. If wisdom teeth are removed after this time, it can be a harder, painful process. It will also take longer to heal from the extraction.
There are some Problems that frequently happen with wisdom teeth. If the jaw is not giant enough, the teeth will not be able to come thru the gums. They might also come halfway thru your gums. If this occurs, food can become trapped under the gums. This frequently causes gum infections. Issues also happen when the wisdom teeth do not come in straight. Infrequently they even come in facing the incorrect direction. For people who have smaller mouths, they can have Problems with their mouth becoming too crowded. This will make it hard to keep the wisdom teeth clean.
Usually there will be no symptoms associated with wisdom teeth. If a patient has symptoms, this is generally a sign that the wisdom teeth should be removed. If a tooth has come in crooked, there might be irritation on the cheek, tongue, or other parts of the mouth. There could be crowding of the rest of the teeth. There is often gum illness or decay on the wisdom teeth or those near it. There may also be swelling and infection. The commonest symptom is agony and rigidity in the jaw and over the tooth.
If any of these symptoms are present, your Carlsbad dentist can diagnose the issue. Your Carlsbad dentist will examine the teeth and often do an x-ray. If your Carlsbad dentist uncovers that there is a difficulty with the wisdom teeth, they can often recommend that the tooth or teeth be removed.
